We are demanding more from our buildings. Thanks to new technologies, smart buildings can help meet these expectations. What is central to this? Collecting data and providing insights, enabling automation and optimization, creating interaction opportunities with the user, and putting the user at the center. Smart buildings provide their greatest added value during the operational phase. Especially in terms of management, maintenance, security, and energy management, there are significant opportunities for installers and contractors. However, for most construction professionals, it’s still challenging to keep up, and even harder to fully understand and utilize the possibilities. To assist with this, Buildwise has compiled the key focus points:
- Why smart buildings – and how do they make a difference?
- Better management of technical installations, with cost savings
- Developing new services for customers
- Extending the lifespan of buildings through predictive maintenance
- Adopting an 8-step plan to create smart, sustainable buildings
Installers and contractors who want to discover the practical benefits of data collection can visit the new Data Connection Center in Zaventem. This new experience center showcases the possibilities of data, monitoring, and IoT (the Internet of Things) for improving processes, materials, and consumption, and fostering innovation. Specifically, this ‘control room’ gathers and visualizes data from various applications and sources. This includes monitoring a building’s energy usage and tracking the real-time load on a highway bridge.
“A solid understanding of smart buildings enables our construction professionals to better respond to the changing demands and expectations of the market, while simultaneously enhancing their competitiveness and the relevance of their work in the sector,” says Arnaud Deneyer, Program Lead Smart Applications & Energy Performance at Buildwise. “This is essential for ensuring their success and growth in an ever-evolving construction environment.”
